Opia: Word Prompt

It’s that feeling you get when you’re hiding something from your mom. Or that feeling when someone calls your bluff. The look that makes you feel small and weak. Eyes can convey a powerful message. But can it happen with a stranger you’ve never met?

It was all a routine. Waking up, eating the same thing every morning, and going to school always with the same friends, same people, same faces and coming home to the same empty bed every night. A dull grey monotony is what my life had become.

Just like every other Friday, my friends and I were meeting up at the cafe near the library. Being the first one there, I went to go grab our usual spot in the corner away from all the noisy hustle bustle.

As my eyes flickered to find my place, I found it was already occupied by the back of a hooded figure. Annoyed and irritated at the days events, I went to go take them out on this hooded stranger. This was our place and I was ready to evacuate this nobody by staking him or her out.

My timid gait turned purposeful as I walked to the back and sat down across from this man who was clearly out of place.

Glancing up from his laptop, he stared and with a sly smirk asked, “Can I help you with something?”

Meeting his gaze, I forgot what I was about to say.

Red. Red. Red. Red. Red.

I just shook my head and gestured to the full room trying to explain that there was no where else to sit. I took out my phone.

With a quick nod, he went back to whatever he was typing up on his laptop.

I sat down and internally sighed to calm my nerves. The moment I met his gaze, I felt small and weak. I felt like I wanted to crawl up and shelter my body from the tempestuous storm threatening to release.

Maybe it was the color of his eyes, I wondered. Craning my neck to get a better view, I wanted to meet his gaze once more.

His eyes were only brown. They weren’t even a stormy blue or a vibrant green! They were only brown. A lighter mediocre shade of brown at the very most. If his eyes weren’t cliche-ishly appealing, why did I want to keep holding his gaze?

Realizing that I was still staring, he looked back up… and winked. Even though I knew he couldn’t read my mind, I became a little angry that he was enjoying the confusion he had caused within me. I furrowed my eyebrows at him, and looked back down.

Then I looked back up because I realized that I didn’t want to leave the comfort the gaze of this stranger was providing me.

What the hell was this feeling? It was the combination of fear and excitement that appears just before you go on the scariest roller coaster at the amusement park. I didn’t know whether to look away or go deeper into this trance that I’ve already entered.
And this obviously made me feel small and weak, because a complete stranger was staring into my soul, and already figured out my secrets. Even the ones that I didn’t even know I was keeping. I wanted him to whisper in my ear the treasures and shipwrecks he had found within my soul.  It was intimidating and exhilarating all at the same time.

Here and Now

I asked the sky one day

Since it was so vast and infinite

I asked if it ever heard our queries beneath?

It laughed and asked me what issues I had so small

To His heart, I unfolded my greatest wishes and desires

Rid me of the safeties of civilization

Let me run wild and feel the wind dance through my hair

Rid me of the burdens and responsibilities of sophistication

Let me unite the child’s innocence trapped in my soul

Rid me of these tremors troubling my mind

Let me laugh until every inch of my body radiates with glee

Rid me of these invisible chains

Let me fight fearlessly for all greatness that awaits

Rid me of these uncertainties

Let me believe I can breathe upon the highest of mountaintops

Rid me of these delusions warping the world

Let me experience here and now

Here and now, I breathe

I breathe in crisp air

I breathe out impurities of tranquility

Here and now, I stand

I stand upon wet green grass

I stand with my toes drenched in the dewy promises of a morrow

Here and now, I see

I see the ground dancing with its subtle steps

I see the earth forgiving its inhabitants of yesterday

Here and now, I taste

I taste the water moist resting from hollow babble

I taste the silence in its might

Here and now, I listen

I listen to the chirping of the birds

I listen to the rhythm of the cicada’s might

Here and now, I feel

I feel the morning air chill my meaningless surface

I feel the light bickering to keep me warm

But that is all.

Here and now does not mean I feel anything that is not.

I do not feel the heartbeats of tomorrow

Filled with uncertainties and anxieties

I do not feel the contest of yesterday

Filled with regret and sorrow

I can only be what I am

Because I am enough

I am here.

And I am now.

The sky stood in awe, and disappeared

Leaving the day gray in its absence

I stood there

Waiting for its return

The sky came back covered in the brightest shade of blue

I asked again

Why, when I had shown my innermost desires had it left?

The sky apologized

After all these years, it thought us so small

Small in size and small at heart

After hearing my words so loud

The sky raced to pass my message to those beyond

I want more than this provincial life

In light of the new Beauty and the Beast movie out in theaters…

I want adventure in the great wide somewhere. I want it more than I can tell. Don’t we all? For all of you out there who are looking for more than this provincial life, fear not! I’ve pondered and pondered about how to do more and find more than each of us is looking for. Sometimes in this busy world that demands too much of us, it seems that our lifestyle is inevitable. It seems as if there’s no way out, and even though that is far from the truth, I’ve found the next most plausible thing!

taste of life

This adventure can be anything! Try something new today! Go to a place you’ve never been to. Try exotic foods. Break your routine. Watch a foreign film. Go on a walk in uncharted territory. Experience a different culture. Read a new book! Get in touch with an old friend. Reconnect with nature. Some people say that the closest thing we have to magic is love. So fall in love! Fall in love with yourself, the world around you, and show affection towards the wonderful people in your life. But for the love of words, do something different! Redefine what that adventure can be!

Which currency is valid in every country?

“Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion.”

This makes you think. Breaking it down to the basics, everything in the universe is so simple and laid out for us. It was born this way. But being the wonderful species that we are, we’ve taken this simplicity and overthought ourselves into becoming a much more purposeful creation.

Democritus forgot one thing though. Besides the space and the atoms, there is energy. Energy guides the ferocity of our opinions and the fire behind our eyes.

Moreover, each beating heart transports an array of frequencies waiting to be heard. In fact, there is no such thing as solidity in our universe. Every form is created by underlying vibrations.

In a world where everything has a price, so do our experiences. When we focus on something, we “buy” that experience. In this materialistic world, energy is the true form of currency. Letting our consciousness flow into an experience, we feed it energy and allow it to amplify and resonate.

Which type of experiences are you willing to buy?

Those very experiences fade into memories, and what does man love more than memories?

Waking up from 2am, take away that the difference between meeting anger and despair or tangling yourself in warmth and laughter is the amount of currency you are willing to spend.

Why 2am?

Hello to all of you lovely people out there! *inserts online hug*

So the entire reason for the creation of this blog is because…. I love writing! And I love 2am! 2am symbolizes all those deep philosophical thoughts that stem from the most creative parts of your mind. It might be scary, it might be wonderful, it might be inspiring, it might even be depressing, but the one thing it has to do is make you think. And the deep rooted love of wisdom in each one of us is just waiting for awake from its slumber.

So please share your thoughts and share your views. I’ll be your partner to philosophize with at 2am!

Another thing you need to know about me is that my favorite author is Ray Bradbury.      My lifelong literary goal is to own every book he has ever written.                                     Here’s some advice from the legend himself that really spoke to me…

“If you want to write, if you want to create…

You must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling.

You must write every single day of your life.

I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime.

I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you.

May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories.

And out of that love, remake a world.”
